Architect
JOB SUMMARY:
To plan, design, and supervise construction of building projects for clients according to their desires, needs, and financial resources.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Consults with clients to determine requirements for their project, whether new construction or renovation. Determines approximate budget, timetable, and possible needs for future expansion.
- Discusses general preferences with regard to style and materials. Attempts to prioritize needs and less important desires.
- Prepares information regarding design, specifications, estimated costs, and construction schedule.
- Prepares preliminary sketches of possible alternatives to assist clients in consolidating their thoughts and priorities. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to facilitate process.
- Develops more detailed plans integrating engineering considerations and presents these for client review and approval.
- Prepares scale drawings and contract specifications, and submits these for bids.
- Makes alterations or adjustments as required as results of bids.
- Works with client to select and award contract.
- Supervises, to degree determined with client, actual construction and completion of project.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
- Master's degree from approved school of architecture.
- Excellent communication skills to facilitate turning clients' wishes into practical reality.
- Creative thinking ability and aesthetic sensitivity.
- Skill with CAD.
