Architect

JOB SUMMARY:
To plan, design, and supervise construction of building projects for clients according to their desires, needs, and financial resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Consults with clients to determine requirements for their project, whether new construction or renovation. Determines approximate budget, timetable, and possible needs for future expansion.
  2. Discusses general preferences with regard to style and materials. Attempts to prioritize needs and less important desires.
  3. Prepares information regarding design, specifications, estimated costs, and construction schedule.
  4. Prepares preliminary sketches of possible alternatives to assist clients in consolidating their thoughts and priorities. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to facilitate process.
  5. Develops more detailed plans integrating engineering considerations and presents these for client review and approval.
  6. Prepares scale drawings and contract specifications, and submits these for bids.
  7. Makes alterations or adjustments as required as results of bids.
  8. Works with client to select and award contract.
  9. Supervises, to degree determined with client, actual construction and completion of project.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs other duties as required or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  1. Master's degree from approved school of architecture.
  2. Excellent communication skills to facilitate turning clients' wishes into practical reality.
  3. Creative thinking ability and aesthetic sensitivity.
  4. Skill with CAD.
