Order Picker

JOB SUMMARY:
To operate high-lift rider forklift (order-picker truck) to stock shelves, retrieve stock to fulfill orders, and maintain computer records of all activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Records receipt of incoming goods on computer. Checks packing list for accuracy, inspects goods, and places materials in designated storage location of warehouse. Records location of goods on computer.
  2. Takes orders from order desk and uses order-picker truck to retrieve requested items from warehouse. Brings materials to shipping desk for packing and records action on computer. Phones customers if necessary to clarify an order.
  3. Inspects all material handling equipment before each shift and arranges for repairs as necessary.
  4. Performs routine maintenance procedures as scheduled.
  5. Operates all types of material handling equipment, including handtrucks, pallet jacks, standard forklifts, and order-picker forklifts as appropriate for particular materials to be moved.
  6. Follows all safety rules for order-picker truck operation and uses fall protection at all times when driver's platform is elevated.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Good (9th grade) math, language, and reading skills.
  2. Computer proficiency sufficient to record receipt and stocking of merchandise and removal of inventory to fill requisitions and orders.
  3. Certification as forklift operator including special training in operating a high-rider-type truck.
  4. A minimum of 6 months' experience in warehouse operations.
  5. State driver's license with clean driving record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  1. Visual acuity sufficient to read packing lists and orders and to record information accurately in computer.
  2. Good physical condition and ability to lift 50 pounds.
  3. Good eye/hand coordination and good motor skills.
  4. Demonstrated dependability and adherence to all safety regulations.
