Production Machine Operator

JOB SUMMARY:
To operate common machine shop equipment such as millers, lathes, grinders, or drill presses after they are set up by more skilled machinists. To produce production parts to required tolerances.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Master machinists set up job according to specifications of work order. Operator follows directions and produces required quantity of parts.
2. Works on different types of equipment to carry out a particular phase of the production cycle.
3. Must produce parts within required tolerances.
4. Is responsible for taking care of routine machine maintenance and keeping work area in neat condition.
5. Follows all safety rules regarding machine operation and proper guarding.
6. Maintains simple reports on work orders handled and quantities produced.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

1. Sufficient reading and writing ability to follow work order instructions and prepare simple production reports.
2. Sufficient visual acuity (corrected) to read instructions, operate machines, and visually inspect parts produced.
3. Sufficient manual dexterity to operate machines properly.
4. Physical ability to do work requiring frequent stooping and bending.
5. Physical strength sufficient to lift and carry 25 pounds frequently.
