Warehouse Team Leader

JOB SUMMARY:
To lead the warehouse team at this facility and meet customer warehousing or delivery requirements, as determined by planning department. To provide a safe, clean, and healthful work environment for self and other team members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Reviews daily shipment schedule and, in discussion with other warehouse team members, plans and prioritizes daily work schedule to meet customer delivery requirements. Alerts team members to any special truck loading configuration or customer delivery requirements.
  2. Leads start-of-shift safety meeting to discuss any injuries from the previous day, safety trends at the facility, and any hazards likely to be encountered in upcoming shift activity.
  3. Checks specification sheets and other written instructions to meet customer specifications. Personally checks pallets of product on first shipment to a new customer and rides with trailer truck driver on the first delivery to meet customer receiving personnel and assure satisfactory shipment of first order.
  4. Reviews daily inventory of finished goods in warehouse against anticipated delivery schedules to minimize amount of handling and damage to finished product.
  5. Leads team members in conducting daily safety check of forklift trucks, restraining systems for tractor trailer trucks, and maintenance needs of over-the-road trucks. Leads checking of conveyor equipment and automatic nesting equipment.
  6. Gives personal leadership to company employee relations policies and to safety and health requirements in the warehouse area.
  7. Solicits opinions of co-workers on effectiveness of the warehouse department operation and implements viable recommendations.
  8. Represents the team at quality council meetings.
  9. Shares in minor repair work and housekeeping responsibilities for the work area.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. May manually handle, repack, or restack pallets of finished product.
  2. May operate forklift truck in slack periods.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  1. Basic knowledge of shipping and warehouse procedures and regulations required; at least two years' experience as a warehouse team member at the facility.
  2. Desire to work in a nontraditional, participative work environment. Peer members of the work team interview all prospective candidates during the selection process.
  3. Considerable contact with other departments, such as sales, planning, and with customers.
